There are different viewpoints on what constitutes a long song.  When it comes to writing, Bob Dylan has spun some long yarns like the 11 verse "Hurricane" or 10 verses of Desolation Row.  Never have they seemed so long as when written out, by hand, stenciled in 2 inch type.  "Some of his longer songs are 27 feet long" says installation artist Skye.

Tom Kasper isn't a doctor, and he doesn't even play one on the radio.

KUMD's Northland Morning host, Lisa Johnson, writes:

'I saw a video a while back with a nine year old, dressed in some kind of Elizabethan costume, singing an aria.

'So I sent it to my friend Elias Mokole, an opera singer and voice instructor here at UMD.

'"It’s beautiful," he wrote back, "except that she’s ruining her voice."

'Seriously?'

Bill Sullivan spent years as a roadie with The Replacements, traveling with the band at first in the "lemon jail," a late 70's Ford Econoline van named Bert.   Their escapades are the stuff of legend, but even when things seemed dire, as Sullivan relates, "we were 22 years old and were having a lot of fun, really."

Sullivan's memoir Lemon Jail: On the Road with the Replacements was published in 2018 by the University of Minnesota Press.
